Newbie

So, I've wanted to start a blog since I left my "comfort zone" and headed north to the "big city". It's only taken me a year and half but I finally got it started. So long story short after graduating with my Masters in Speech/Language Pathology from UK I accepted a job in Columbus, OH at a large, non-profit, outpatient treatment center for pediatrics. I became interested in Columbus originally when I looked at OSU for grad school. I knew I wanted to get out of KY and live in a "big city" for a little while, and I don't regret it at all! In fact, it's prob one of the hardest/best things I've ever done. My cousin lives in Columbus which has made a huge difference. Just having her (and her fiance) has been so helpful and great. She has become one of my dearest friends and for that I will always be grateful.

My job has been the absolute best first-job i could have asked for. With 30 others SLP's I have learned so much and believe I have really grown as a therapist. So far there hasn't been a day that I have questioned my decision to become a SLP and I haven't had a single day where I have dreaded going to work. I am so grateful for my job!!! I have also made some great friends at work who make everyday enjoyable and who have welcomed me and made me feel so comfortable. Being the "new girl" and knowing literally two people in Columbus was very intimidating, however, everyone at work was so nice and welcoming and I will always treasure my friends I have made there.

So, one and half years later I am now living in my second apartment. I lived downtown in the "brewery district" when I first moved to Columbus, and I'm not going to lie, I miss it! It was a really cool loft in an old Brewery and it was in a really neat part of town. However, that being said my new apartment in the "burbs" does have some perks. It has a lot more space, my visitors don't have to park at meters, and most importantly my dog is happier:) Speaking of the "brewery district" that was something I had to learn quickly. My first day of work people kept asking me where I lived and I looked at them like "huh, of course I live in Columbus". Well Columbus (like most big cities I'm sure) is broken up into all these "districts"/areas. I know live in the suburbs, about 15-20 minutes from downtown. It's been a change, but it's nice being close to my cousin and to some good shopping (well not good for my bank account, but good for my closet). I still just have one of dog, Ries, who will be written about MUCH more (she is like my child, literally, I moved apartments for her), however, I would love to get another dog. I'm just worried about how Ries will handle it.

So that's kind of my life in the "big city" in a nutshell...I hope to keep this blog going as a way for me to "journal" my experiences, as well as keep my friends and family informed of what's going on in "yankee land". On that note I will end my post with this "you can take the girl out of the south, but you can't take the south out of the girl" I will NEVER quit saying yall and coke :)
